Palm Springs

This week was my friend Lynnae’s 21st birthday. To celebrate a group of us went to Palm Springs for the weekend with her family. On Saturday morning Lorah, Rachel, I headed to the condo. Palm Springs is about an hour and a half away….so not too bad of a drive. Once we got to the condo we met up with Lynnae and her family. After we unpacked the car we headed straight to the pool. It was a relaxing afternoon of lying by the pool and swimming. As the afternoon progressed, the sun by the pool started to disappear. We decided to move onto the grass so that we could tan. We sat there comfortably with our books, iPods, cell phones, and sunglasses….that is until the sprinklers came on. We quickly gathered our things and ran. Rachel was screaming and yelling, “I am getting wet!” At that point we decided to go back to the condo and watch a movie and eat some dinner. After our movie was over Lorah, Rach, and I took Lynnae to Applebee’s for dessert. We made them sing to her and everything. She was pretty embarrassed about the singing, but oh well. After dessert we headed to Hollywood Video to rent Titanic…because Rachel had never seen it. We finally got back to the condo (after getting lost). WE watched the movie and then went to bed.
On Sunday morning Josh and James came to finish off the weekend. The beginning of the day it was cloudy and gray….it even rained a bit. We spent the morning watching a Bill Cosby comedy dvd. We laughed the entire time!!! It finally started to clear up in the early afternoon so we made our way to the pool. I was pretty much in heaven being able to swim all weekend. I swam laps in every stroke. It was amazing. After spending most of the afternoon at the pool we made our way back to the condo again. We decided to play a game that Lorah had brought with her. We laughed so much. It was fun to just hang out and not have to worry about school or anything else.

It was a great weekend filled with a lot of laughs and many new inside jokes.

Costumes, Dresses, & Hockey Pucks

Growing up, I always enjoyed Halloween. Getting dressed up, candy, carving pumpkins, and the other fun activities that surround the day. Last week, we had Reformation Awareness Week. The two chapels of the week were based on the Reformation and how it affects us today. Thursday night we had pumpkin carving and caramel apple bar. Friday night was our annual Reformation Carnival. One my roommates, Jamie, and I dressed up together. She was Mrs. Pac man and I was Pinky, the pink ghost, from the game. We made our costumes from supplies that we bought at Wal-Mart.
On Saturday Rachel and I were invited to Lorah’s uncle, Hans’ wedding. Him and his fiancĂ©e, Blanca were finally tying the knot after 5 years of dating. For those that don’t know, Lorah lives off campus with her grandparents and uncle Hans. Whenever we go over there Hans and Blanca usually make an appearance and talk with us for a bit. They are a cute couple that is completely in love. It was an absolutely gorgeous wedding. Blanca and Hans were so happy. A bunch of Lorah’s family came down from Canada for the occasion. It was nice to see them all again and meet some new people.

On Sunday I got to go to an Anaheim Ducks vs. Calgary Flames hockey game. My friend Jeremy and I went together. It was a really fun game. After the game we were heading down the street to get onto the freeway. Some guy in a big white truck decided to come in my lane and didn’t see me. He sideswiped me on my driver’s side. There was no place to pull over right where I was so I got in the turning lane to turn into a shopping center. The guy in the truck drove right past me, looked at me, and then sped up and drove away. Jeremy and I tried to get his license plate number, but he was driving too fast.
As Thanksgiving gets closer, I find myself more and more excited about being at home with my family and friends again. I am sure that it will be nice to have a break from school work. The coming weeks are going to be pretty busy and before I can blink Thanksgiving will be here.
